Gloucester City Council is seeking a dedicated Food and Drink Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of the food and drink service at The Arbor, Gloucester Crematorium. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in delivering a professional, welcoming, and high-quality service within a sensitive and respectful setting.
About the Role
As Food and Drink Supervisor, you will lead the daily operation of our café and wake service, ensuring the highest standards of food presentation, customer care, hygiene, and venue management. You will supervise and support the food and drink team, ensuring resources are effectively managed and that customers receive an outstanding service at all times. This role combines hands-on operational responsibility with team leadership, administration, and compliance management.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise the effective operation of the café and wake service, including opening and closing procedures.
Lead, motivate and support the food and drink team through training, one-to-one meetings and rota management.
Ensure food and drink are consistently presented to a high standard.
Maintain compliance with food hygiene regulations, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards.
Manage service administration, income records, expenditure monitoring and cash handling procedures.
Investigate and report maintenance issues, ensuring facilities remain safe and welcoming.
Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally, resolving issues within agreed timescales.
Act as a designated Fire Warden and support safe evacuation procedures when required.
Contribute to service improvements and help achieve income and performance targets.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused individual who can lead by example and inspire a high-performing team.
You will have:
Experience supervising or managing teams in a busy environment.
Experience in food preparation and food presentation.
Experience delivering training and supporting staff development.
Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to put people at ease.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.
Good knowledge of health and safety, food hygiene, and risk management.
The ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities.
An understanding of alcohol licensing requirements and the supervision of bar service.
A commitment to delivering high standards and achieving service targets.
This position is subject to an annualised hours contract. Evening working may be required to support wake bookings, and the successful candidate will be expected to become the Personal Licence Holder for The Arbor if not already qualified.
