Consultant in Nuclear Medicine

Job overview

The successful applicant will be embedded in the nuclear medicine service, reporting and vetting studies and problem solving to ensure smooth patient journeys through the service. The successful candidate will have the ability to craft their own job plan with the Clinical Director. Home reporting and flexible reporting sessions are supported.

The successful candidate will be working alongside 34 Consultant Radiologists, 135 Radiographers, 19 Nurses, 50 A&C staff and clinicians from various specialties. As a senior clinician people will look to you to help shape the future of Trust's nuclear medicine offering.

Job description

1. Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities

• To consult within the specialty of Nuclear Medicine. This will include reporting and advising on imaging.
• To help lead and shape the Trust's nuclear medicine services.
• To engage in Registrar training (9 trainees from the Severn Deanery rotate through the department every six months).

2. Professional Development, Education and Training

Keeping up-to-date clinically via attendance at courses and conferences.

To teach Radiology Registrars.

3. Management and Leadership

Show willingness to engage in the running of the department by taking on management and leadership positions.

4. Research and Development

Whilst not essential, research is encouraged and supported.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• Full GMC registration
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT or CESR (CP) (proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview) or the candidate clearly demonstrates the skills, experience and capabilities required for this consultant post.

Desirable

• An appropriate higher clinical qualification (eg MRCS, MRCP etc)
• Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Ability to appraise research critically and apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
• Ability to supervise junior staff undertaking research projects
• Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
• Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems

Desirable

• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Training in teaching skills
• Certificate of education
• Involvement in undergraduate education
• Experience of teaching and clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
• Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Clinical/Experience

Essential

• Evidence of a broad training in nuclear medicine
• Experience working within the NHS at or approaching a Consultant level
