About this role
Teacher of Science
Fixed Term Contract
January 2027 – August 2027
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of Science to join our highly successful Science Department on a fixed-term basis from January 2027 until August 2027.
At Pittville School, we are proud of our inclusive ethos and commitment to ensuring every student achieves their potential. We place staff wellbeing and professional development at the heart of our work and have developed a genuinely supportive environment in which colleagues can thrive.
Whilst this appointment is initially fixed-term, the school anticipates completing curriculum modelling and staffing reviews during the academic year and therefore welcomes applications from candidates seeking to make a significant contribution to the department during this period.
The successful candidate will play an important role in helping our students achieve their potential and will benefit from working within a collaborative department committed to high-quality teaching and professional development.
We welcome applications from both Early Career Teachers and experienced colleagues. The successful candidate will join a highly effective department that is passionate about delivering excellent science education and securing the very best outcomes for students. We are looking for someone who shares our high expectations, enthusiasm for teaching and commitment to helping young people succeed.
The Science Department is housed within six laboratories and consists of seven full-time teachers, one part-time teacher, a member of the Senior Leadership Team and two highly skilled technicians. The department is led by a Curriculum Leader and supported by a second in department. Teachers work closely together to plan, develop and refine curriculum provision, creating a culture of continuous improvement and professional support.
At Key Stage 4, students study AQA Combined Science (Trilogy) and are taught by specialist teachers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At Key Stage 3, students follow a carefully sequenced curriculum designed to develop scientific knowledge, curiosity and practical skills. While the ability to teach Biology as a specialism is desirable, applications from teachers of all science specialisms are warmly welcomed.
As a school, we are committed to investing in our staff. All new colleagues benefit from a comprehensive induction programme, high-quality professional development and access to a range of opportunities through our wider professional networks. This sits alongside a strong programme of internal training, collaborative practice and professional learning.
Closing Date: Monday 16th November, 9am
Interview Date: TBC week beginning 16th November
Applications may be reviewed upon receipt, and we reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date.
Pittville School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake all relevant pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, online searches and satisfactory references. Any offer of employment is subject to these checks being completed successfully. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity with children.
